Memory Lane

Evidently, it's exactly fifty-five years since I took the young lady who became my wife on our first 'date'. I'm not going to pretend that I didn't need to be reminded that this was the anniversary. However, I'm proud to record that I do recall that the film we went to see was, "The Cruel Sea"  ..........Although, on second thoughts, it might have been, "Above Us The Waves".

n.b. (on the following day).
I've just checked with Wiki-wotsit - and "The Cruel Sea" was premiered in 1953 and "Above Us The Waves" in 1955. So, it must have been the latter which we went to see.

I was at 19 Coy RAMC from Oct 56 to May 57 at Chester Military Hospital. It seems likely that you could have been one of our ambulance drivers at that time. If so you might remember a rush job in FEB/MARCH 57 from Chester to Princes Landing Stage, Liverpool to collect 15 patients from the TS Devonshire. Rush due to a duty MO who kept saying 'I'm coming with you; 'No I'm not' until 6.18 and we had to hit Princes by 06.35 but we managed it with 2 minutes to spare - but without the MO. Only to leave there with police escort due to one ambulance with yellow discs on. Their were 3 K2 ambulances going but 4 coming back. No 4 came from Seaforth Bks and had the yellow discs.

The only time I can recall (with any certainty) having a police escort through the tunnel was whilst taking someone with a mental problem in a Fordson ambulance to somewhere near Preston. I may have been doing a para course in Aldershot at the time of The Princes Landing Stage incident.
