An Introduction........

Follow Omnibusologist on Twitter

Soon after the start of the new millennium, having retired from full-time employment, in addition to acting as an occasional unpaid roadie for my
elder son, I started a part-time job delivering (mainly) buses and coaches throughout the UK and the original intention of this web-site was to provide what amounted to a diary - which has since been condensed into a comprehensive explanation of the work.

In time, other features were added (some of which are quite detailed); my experiences in the army, for example, and journals of travel in the USA and South America. Eventually, in the winter of 2008, I retired completely and began new projects. Currently, I comment on life in retirement in the Blog section and have compiled what amounts to a life story based on a quite extensive collection of model vehicles and a personal record of the British nuclear tests in the south Pacific. More recently, I've bought a 400 cc, three-wheeled, touring scooter and am undertaking trips down Memory Lane.

What's in a name?

Those who were in the UK during the eighties may recall the actress, Maureen Lipman's series of TV commercials for British Telecom (BT) where she portrayed a Jewish grandmother called Beatie (get it?).

In one of them, her teenaged grandson was bemoaning the fact that he hadn't done very well in his examinations. He had, however, passed in Sociology.

"You got an OLOGY!" his grandmother exclaimed, "That's not a failure."

As it happened, I was involved in the passenger transport industry at that time and the word Omnibusologist formed in my mind and I've adopted it as an internet 'User name' ever since. So far as I can tell (from Google) only two other people have used the word. One is an interesting
character in Australia and the other is what must be a rather sad individual who has 'stolen' some of what appear to be my personal details to register with a US police officers' web-site.
