Resuming coverage of my walking experiences, I've started to explore the other side of the hill on which I live and have been intrigued by the difference which exist between the two sides.

Over the past twenty years, I had been aware of the increase in mountain bike riders on the hill but hadn't realised the efforts the local authority had made to cater for their needs. Some paths have been re-constructed in a manner which resembles a racing track - banked corners, for example, and tree trunks laid down to resemble 'road-side' barriers (as shown below).

It's just as well this construction-work has carried out because some of these bikers travel at break-neck speed. However, I have to say that, more often than not, they are very considerate towards an elderly walker and it's not unusual for the first of a group of riders to shout out how many are following. BTW, the unusual colouring in the lower picture is the result of experimenting with iPhoto - and nothing more sinister.
